The first gathering of BDLUG was held July 10 at 4:00pm. The event was full with lively discussions. As this was the first meeting of this kind, there were no pre-arranged topics. Here is the summary of the happenings.

Many participants shared their problems and solutions. Most of the problems are related with sound cards. A network card, detecting BUSY tone by modem and problems related with two downloaded Red Hat 6 installations were discussed. A lecture about mailing system in Linux was unfinished.

M. S. Anam gave much valuable advice and insight into the role of Linux in the country and its phenomenal spread in recent times.

We were glad to see Mr. Rahman Amanullah from Sweden who came to Bangladesh after 17 years. He was eager to see what we do. He also brought two of his cousins to introduce them to Linux.

Most of the time was spent fixing goals for BDLUG, what we can do to promote Linux in the country, why use Linux and distributing tasks between members.

Our first goal is to bring more people who already use Linux or are familiar with it into BDLUG. New Linux users will come along and we will do everything we can to help them. After some time, we can go to the masses with the Linux message.

We managed to distribute responsibilities between members. The list is as follows:

Near the end, we decided the next meeting will be around August 15-20. The venue will be BUET. Before the next meeting, we will do some publicity through distributing notices to some universities and publishings in news papers and computer magazines.

Some members had difficulty finding the venue and unfortunately it was drizzling. They came in all wet. We thank them for showing the strong enthusiasm.

We can never thank dEvnET's A. K. Sabbir Mahbub enough for hosting the event and taking the daunting job of organizing it. Words are useless for thanking M. Shariful Anam (Shuman). We will be ever grateful to him for his skillful guidance and valuable advice.
