October 8th, we had our 3rd gathering at Dhaka University Computer Center. The venue was the best we have seen so far.  As it was a seminar room we had good seating arrangements and most of all, a blackboard!  20 attended.  We are quite sure attendance would have been much higher if we didn't have the Bangladesh-West Indies cricket match.

This time we got Mr.Sabbir (a nice organizer), so the meeting organized.

The first part of the meeting was pre-selected lectures. We managed to give 2 within the time limit.  First Md.Samiul Haque gave an enlightening lecture on setting a network for an ISP.  It is certainly a very big topic but he managed to discuss some important points.  The discussion touched UUCP and mailing systems too.  Later on, he gave a detailed explanation of the difference between  /dev/cua* and /dev/ttyS*.  The second topic was about some basics for newbies and ISP connectivity, presented by Mojahedul Hoque.  He talked about the directory structure in Unix, connecting and testing a modem and how to connect to an ISP with pppd and minicom.

We did have some other pre-selected topics, but time was limited. The rest of the meeting concentrated on making an organizing structure and how we could make our regular gatherings more effective.  The organizing structure we settled upon is:

    + Publishing: Md. Samiul Haque 
    + Services: Mustaq Ahmed
    + Office work: Mursalin Akon
    + Web page: Md. Mahbubur Rahim Khan
    + Advisers: Zulfiquar Hafiz Jewel (Lecturer, DU)
                      Mosaddek Hossain Kamal Tushar (Lecturer, DU)

The most important outcome of this discussion was our decisions for the next meetings:

    + We will split the meetings in two parts: a seminar and
      an organizers meeting.  In the seminar we will have
      lectures and q&a sessions for both newbies and advanced
      users.  We may have to make the "seminar" and "organizers'
      meeting" on two different dates.
    + We will take a post box, to have a fixed address for BDLUG.
    + Make a FAQ list from discussions in the meetings and the
      mailing list.
    + Make a publication.  We may charge for it to raise some
      funds.
    + Try to hold the next meeting at NSU.

The most important result of this meeting is that the organizers have learnt many new things.  We hope we will be able to make the next meetings much more attractive and rewarding for the participants.

We can never adequately thank Mr. Zulfiquar Hafiz Jewel and Mr. Mosaddek Hossain Kamal Tushar for hosting the meeting.  We also thank Mr. Samiul (Md. Samiul Haque) for makings us a time from his hectic schedule.  We missed Mr. Shuman (M S Anam) greatly. Thanks to Mr. Sabbir Mahbub for making this meeting a well organized event.
